Interpretations at Scottish Ornithologists’ Club

Readers may recall Mandy Haggith’s investigation of the ongoing relationship between art and poetry in the work of Helen Denerley from issue 2 of Art North magazine. Helen will be exhibiting at the SOC (Scottish Ornithologists’ Club) gallery in Aberlady, East Lothian this September.

The exhibition brings together the work of Denerley, Nik Pollard, Greg Poole and Lara Scouller, all of whom share a desire to interpret, distil, and simplify their subject while retaining its authenticity and essential truth, allowing their chosen media to lead them in their exploration. The show will include metal sculptures by Denerley, woodcuts by Poole, pastels by Scouller and drawings, paintings and prints by Pollard.  A mix of dynamic, expressive and celebratory interpretations of our natural world.

The SOC is a charity promoting the study of birds in Scotland. From the outset its membership included prominent wildlife artists, and the charity has always been committed to promoting wildlife art.
